Yunnan

Overview

Bordering Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar in the south, Tibet in the north-west as well as Sichuan, Guizhou and Guangxi provinces in China – Yunnan (云南) is a melting pot of cultures and influences.

This is a land rich in flora, fauna and natural resources. More than half of the country’s ethnic minorities reside here, providing a glimpse into China’s hugely varied mix of humanity. The terrain in Yunnan ranges from the dense tropical rainforests in Xishuangbanna to magnificent karst formations in Kunming to snow-capped mountain ranges in Shangri-La.

Yunnan has grown in popularity in recent years and roads and accommodation have seen vast improvements. Take your pick of laid-back retreats, scenic road trips or off the beaten track exploration – There is something for everyone here.
